Graham Rahal waarschijnlijk toch terug naar NHL

Graham Rahal zal volgens het Britse Autosport later dit seizoen alsnog terugkeren naar Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing. De 21-jarige Amerikaan reed in 2009 nog bij het team, maar omdat sponsor McDonalds afhaakte kon Rahal op zoek naar een nieuwe werkgever.

Lang bleef het stil rondom Rahal, maar vorige week werd bevestigd dat hij de komende race, in St Petersburg, voor Sarah Fisher Racing zal rijden. Ondertussen zou Rahal nieuwe sponsoren hebben gevonden wat hem een terugkeer naar NHL Racing kan opleveren.

"Ik wil er nog niet teveel over zeggen, maar het ziet er nu goed uit dat ik een stoeltje voor langere termijn kan krijgen", vertelde Rahal. NHL-teammanager Brian Lisles zei: "Ik weet niet alle details, maar het zou erg leuk zijn als Rahal opnieuw voor ons zou gaan racen."

Volgens de geruchten zou Rahal vanaf de derde race, in Long Beach, weer instappen bij Newman/Haas/Lanigan.
