Jakes tekent bij Schmidt Peterson Motorsports

James Jakes keert na een jaar absentie terug op de IndyCar-grid. De 27-jarige Brit heeft getekend bij Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, als teamgenoot van James Hinchcliffe. Van 2011 tot en met 2013 was hij een vaste waarde in de IndyCar, maar in 2014 moest hij verstek laten gaan.

Jakes: "Ten eerste gaat mijn dank uit naar Schmidt Peterson Motorsports voor het feit dat ze me vorige week hebben laten testen na zestien maanden afwezigheid. Ik ben zeer opgewonden en gemotiveerd om dit seizoen de auto met startnummer 7 voor SPM te bemannen. Het team heeft geweldig werk geleverd de voorbije jaren en ik wil die stijgende lijn door trekken."

"Ik denk dat James Hinchcliffe en ik deze renstal echt naar de top van deze klasse kunnen stuwen. Het doet me deugd om met hem als teamgenoot samen te werken in een poging Honda te helpen met de nieuwe aero kits. Ik kan niet wachten totdat het seizoen begint."
