Castroneves troeft Ganassi-duo af op Barber Motorsports Park

Helio Castroneves heeft zijn eerste overwinning sinds juni vorig jaar geboekt. De Braziliaan van Penske bleef Ganassi-coureur Scott Dixon nipt voor. Dario Franchitti, teamgenoot van Dixon, legde beslag op de derde positie.

Castroneves, Dixon en Franchitti dankten hun podiumplekken aan een goede strategie. Het drietal stopte slechts twee maal op Barber Motorsports Park, terwijl polesitter Will Power drie keer de pits bezocht en terug viel naar de vierde stek.

Marco Andretti leek lange tijd op weg naar de zege. De Amerikaan leidde een groot deel van de race, maar vlak voor het einde moest hij toch nog een extra stop maken om brandstof te halen. Andretti eindigde als vijfde. Takuma Sato beleefde ook aan zijn tweede race in de IRL weinig plezier. De Japanner viel na 11 ronden stil met een gasprobleem. Hij lag toen zevende.
