Will Power ook in eerste training Long Beach bovenaan

Will Power lijkt qua snelheid niet te kloppen op dit moment in de IndyCar Series. Ook vandaag reed de Penske-coureur weer de snelste tijd in een vrije training. In Long Beach was Power zijn teamgenoot Helio Castroneves te snel af.

Lange tijd stond het Ganassi-duo Scott Dixon en Dario Franchitti bovenaan de tijdenlijst. Vlak voor het vallen van de vlag verbeterde enkele coureurs hun tijden nog en werden Dixon en Franchitti naar respectievelijk de derde en vijfde plaats verstoten.

Will Power nam de koppositie over en met zijn 1:11.4038 was hij niet te kloppen. Castroneves moest al ruim een tiende toegeven op de tijd van Power, gevolgd door Dixon, Ryan Briscoe en Franchitti. Tony Kanaan was de snelste van het Andretti-team op de zesde stek, voor Alex Tagliani, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Justin Wilson en EJ Viso eindigde als tiende. De Belg Bertrand Baguette liet op de 24e plaats alleen nog maar Milka Duno achter zich en kwam precies drie seconden tekort op de tijd van Power. Takuma Sato reed de negentiende tijd.
