Hunter-Reay snelste ondanks crash, Baguette in problemen

Ryan Hunter-Reay heeft zojuist tijdens de tweede vrije training in Long Beach de snelste tijd gereden. Zijn teamgenoot Tony Kanaan eindigde als derde, terwijl Ryan Briscoe de twee Andretti-coureur uit elkaar hield.

Hunter-Reay kende geen vlekkeloze training. De Amerikaan spinde namelijk de bandenstapels in, maar had geluk dat zijn auto alleen kleine schade had opgelopen aan de achtervleugel. De Braziliaan kon na reparatie bij zijn team zijn weg weer vervolgen en reed zelfs de snelste tijd. Ryan Briscoe en Tony Kanaan reden de tweede en derde tijd en kwamen nog geen tiende tekort op de tijd van Hunter-Reay.

Er waren veel incidenten tijdens deze twee training. Naast de crash van Hunter-Reay ging Dario Franchitti in dezelfde bocht in de fout. Hij kon na reparatie aan zijn voorvleugel zijn weg weer vervolgen. Verder spinde ook Scott Dixon de banden in bij de eerste bocht, vlak na een crash van Bertrand Baguette.

Tussen alle gele vlaggen door reed Alex Tagliani voor het nieuwe Fazzt-team naar een zeer knappe vierde tijd, gevolgd door kampioenschapsleider Will Power en Justin Wilson. Dario Franchitti reed naar een zevende tijd, voor Mario Moraes, Helio Castroneves en Scott Dixon.
