Will Power blijft onverslaanbaar tijdens kwalificatie

Will Power heeft ook voor de vierde race van de IndyCar-kalender de pole position veroverd. De coureur van Penske was in de Fast Six Ryan Hunter-Reay van Andretti Autosport te snel af.

Power reed een formidabele ronde in de Fast Six. Hij was met een 1:09.3185 maar liefst 0.4321 seconden sneller dan Ryan Hunter-Reay. De coureur van Andretti Autosport maakte indruk met zijn tweede startpositie en was ook de snelste van het Andretti-team. Justin Wilson reed naar de derde plaats voor Dreyer & Reinbold, terwijl het Penske-duo Helio Castroneves en Ryan Briscoe de top vijf completteerden. Tony Kanaan start de race in Long Beach als zesde.

Alex Tagliani, die nog altijd geblesseerd was aan zijn hand na een crash op vrijdag, reed naar de zevende startplaats, voor Scott Dixon die tegenviel. Marco Andretti reed naar de negende plaats, Dan Whedon naar de tiende stek, Hideki Mutoh zal de race als elfde aanvangen en Helio Castroneves stelde zwaar teleur met slechts een twaalfde startplaats.
