Chevrolet bestraft voor reparatie motoren

Chevrolet scoorde bij de seizoensopener van de IndyCar in St Petersburg in totaal 126 punten, maar die punten is de motorleverancier nu alweer kwijt. Het Amerikaanse merk is bestraft voor het repareren van elf van de twaalf motoren.

Volgens artikel 10.6.4.4 in de reglementen wordt voor elke reparatie 20 punten in mindering gebracht. Chevrolet liep dus in totaal 220 strafpunten op. Deze straf is alleen van toepassing op het kampioenschap voor motorleveranciers.

De IndyCar-coureurs beschikken dit jaar over vier motoren om 10.000 mijl mee af te leggen. Als een krachtbron de 2.500 mijl bereikt, dan levert dat de betreffende leverancier bonuspunten op. Maar bij een voortijdige motorwissel of noodzakelijke reparatie incasseert de betreffende motorleverancier 20 strafpunten.
