Briscoe vervangt Hinchcliffe voor Indy 500

Ryan Briscoe is door Schmidt Peterson Motorsports opgeroepen voor de Indy 500. De 33-jarige Australiër neemt de honneurs waar voor James Hinchcliffe, die na een zware crash in de training op maandag in het ziekenhuis ligt. Het herstel van de Canadees verloopt voorspoedig.

Als vervanger is dus IndyCar-veteraan Briscoe aangesteld. "Ten eerste vind ik het rot voor James dat hij onder deze omstandigheden de Indy 500 moet missen. Ik wens hem het beste en een snelle revalidatie toe. Normaal gesproken leef je een jaar lang naar dit evenement toe. Je visualiseert hoe je de trainingen aan gaat pakken, je stelt een heel plan van aanpak op. Dat is nu allemaal uit het raam gegaan. Toch heb ik vertrouwen dat ik met een paar rondjes ook mijn ritme kan vinden."
