Scott Dixon snelste in uitgestelde training op Kansas Speedway

Scott Dixon heeft in een uitgestelde vrije training op de Kansas Speedway de snelste tijd laten noteren. De Nieuw-Zeelander was in de 1 uur en 45 minuten durende sessie Ryan Briscoe met zes honderdsten te snel af.

Vanwege hevige regenval en hagelbuien werd de eerste training al uitgesteld. Hierdoor besloot de organisatie de tweede training helemaal te schrappen door tijdgebrek, maar verlengde de eerste, en dus ook enige, training naar 1 uur en 45 minuten. Daardoor was het erg druk op de eerste oval van het seizoen, al crashte alleen Mario Romancini. Hij stapte ongedeerd uit, maar kon zijn training niet meer hervatten.

Vooraan het veld reed Ryan Briscoe de snelste tijd na de neutralisatie, maar al snel ging Scott Dixon onder zijn tijd door. Met een 25.727 was de Ganassi-coureur uiteindelijk iets sneller dan de Penske van Briscoe. Dan Wheldon reed naar een knappe derde positie, gevolgd door Mario Moraes, Will Power en Dario Franchitti. John Andretti en Jay Howard, die dit weekend als voorbereiding gebruiken op de Indy 500, reden respectievelijk de zestiende en negentiende tijd. Takuma Sato eindigde zijn eerste oval-training met de 21e tijd, terwijl Bertrand Baguette 26e en voorlaatste werd.

De kwalificatie is vannacht.
