Hinchcliffe: "Ben de gelukkigste pechvogel"

James Hinchcliffe moet binnenkort een nieuwe operatie ondergaan. De Canadees crashte in een training voor de Indy 500 zwaar en raakte ernstig gewond aan zijn bovenbeen. Na een paar dagen op de intensive care mocht hij het ziekenhuis verlaten en het herstel verloopt voorspoedig, maar ergens in de komende vier tot zes weken zal hij toch nog een keer onder het mes moeten.

Hinchcliffe: "Ik voel me vrij goed. Mijn toestand verbetert elke dag, de pijn wordt steeds minder. Mijn slechte dagen zijn steeds zeldzamer en er zit steeds meer tijd tussen. Ik zit nog altijd met veel vragen over het ongeluk, want ik kan me er niks van herinneren. Dat is fascinerend en angstaanjagend tegelijkertijd. Ik voel me de gelukkigste pechvogel."

"Elke arts die ik heb gezien was positief verbaasd over de progressie van mijn revalidatie en de snelheid van mijn herstel. Dat is goed nieuws. Maar ik kan nog geen datum plakken op wanneer ik weer in de auto kan zitten. Er moet nog heel veel gebeuren voordat het zover is. Ik vond alle steunbetuigingen van fans en collega's hartverwarmend, die hebben zeker geholpen."
