Scott Dixon leidt 1-2 voor Ganassi op Kansas Speedway

Scott Dixon heeft zojuist zijn allereerste overwinning van dit seizoen gescoord op de Kansas Speedway. De Nieuw-Zeelander was in de race zijn Ganassi-teamgenoot Dario Franchitti te snel af. Tony Kanaan pakte de laatste podiumplaats.

Ryan Briscoe startte vanaf de pole position en behield tijdens de eerste ronden ook de leiding vast. Dixon moest zijn tweede plaats in de veertiende ronde afstaan aan Franchitti na een klein foutje, maar al snel passeerde Dixon zijn teamgenoot weer. Daarna kon de Ganassi-coureur op jacht naar de leidende Briscoe.

Al snel kon Dixon voorbij aan de Penske van Briscoe en pakte zo vlak voor de eerste pitstops de leiding over. Tijdens die stops ging ook Franchitti voorbij aan Briscoe en daarna bleven Dixon en Franchitti dichtbij elkaar rijden. Echter, bij de laatste pitstops ging Helio Castroneves voorbij aan Franchitti, maar Dixon had in leidende positie niks te vrezen, want er zaten enkele auto's tussen die op een ronde achterstand reden.

Bij de laatste herstart, na een Safety-Car die veroorzaakt werd door Hideki Mutoh en Takuma Sato, werd Castroneves nog naar achteren geduwd door Franchitti en Tony Kanaan die als derde eindigde. Polesitter Ryan Briscoe zag alle kansen op een zege verdampen door een extra pitstop, maar eindigde wel als zesde vlak achter Ryan Hunter-Reay. Mario Moraes eindigde als zevende, gevolgd door Alex Tagliani en John Andretti. Bertrand Baguette reed zijn eerste oval-race uit op de twintigste plaats op drie ronden achterstand.
