Josef Newgarden pakt eerste pole position op Milwaukee Mile

Josef Newgarden heeft vanavond zijn eerste pole position gepakt op de Milwaukee Mile. De rijder van CFH Racing krijgt gezelschap op de eerste rij van Ryan Briscoe in de Schmidt Peterson bolide. Newgarden reed in twee rondes een gemiddelde snelheid van 170,223 mijl per uur, Briscoe was met een 170,086 mijl net iets langzamer.

Newgarden: "Het is fijn om in drie van de vier sessies het snelste te zijn, maar de vierde sessie is waar het om gaat. Tot dusver deden we het beter op de normale circuits en de stratencircuits, deze prestatie is een mooie opsteker voor alle harde werkers binnen het team." Newgarden pakte dit seizoen tot dusver twee overwinningen.

Op de tweede rij staan Sage Karam en Tony Kanaan van Chip Ganassi Racing. James Jakes en Graham Rahal maken de derde rij compleet. Bijzonder in de kwalificatie was de diskwalificatie van Helio Castroneves. Het team van de Braziliaan overtrad de reglementen waardoor Castroneves achteraan zal starten. Leider in het kampioenschap Juan Pablo Montoya kwam niet verder dan de achtste plaats. De wedstrijd begint vanavond om 23:30 uur.
