Dixon pakt pole position op Mid-Ohio in baanrecord

Scott Dixon heeft zaterdagavond de pole position behaald voor de Honda Indy 200 op het circuit van Mid-Ohio. Door het baanrecord met acht tienden van een seconde aan te scherpen, bleef de Nieuw-Zeelander Will Power en Sébastien Bourdais voor.

Tijdens de Fast Six, het laatste deel van de kwalificatie, reed Dixon een 1:04.581 en dat was genoeg voor zijn tweede pole van het seizoen. Ook tijdens de vrije trainingen was de rijder van Chip Ganassi bovenaan de tijdenlijsten te vinden met nieuwe baanrecords. In de kwalificatie kon alleen Power enigszins in het spoor blijven en bleef binnen een tiende van de tijd van Dixon.

Van de andere titelfavorieten zette Helio Castroneves de beste prestatie neer. Hij zette de vierde tijd neer en daarmee staat de Penske-coureur zes plaatsen voor teamgenoot Juan Pablo Montoya. De kampioenschapsleider kwam niet verder dan de tiende plaats. Naaste achtervolger Graham Rahal start slechts vanaf de dertiende plek. Om 20:00 uur zal de wedstrijd op Mid-Ohio van start gaan.
