Tony Kanaan rijdt snelste tijd in eerste training Iowa

Tony Kanaan heeft zojuist de snelste tijd gereden tijdens de eerste vrije training van de IndyCar Series op de oval van Iowa. De Braziliaan was veertien honderdsten sneller dan Will Power, terwijl Marco Andretti een sterke derde tijd reed.

Kanaan reed meteen in de beginfase van de training al de snelste tijden en was eigenlijk de hele sessie onklopbaar. Andretti Autosport kende sowieso een goede training, want Marco Andretti eindigde op de derde positie. Het duo werd gesplitst door Penske's Will Power.

Scott Dixon bleef zijn Ganassi-teamgenoot Dario Franchitti op de vierde plaats voor, terwijl Dan Wheldon een sterke training op de zesde plaats eindigde. Ryan Briscoe reed de zevende tijd, Ryan Hunter-Reay eindigde als achtste. De Belg Bertrand Baguette reed de 22e tijd in een veld van 25 auto's, maar bleef wel zijn teammaat voor.
