Dixon pakt zege na spectaculaire race in Phoenix

Scott Dixon heeft de tweede IndyCar-race van het seizoen 2016 gewonnen. De Chip Ganassi-coureur profiteerde van de pech van de concurrentie en schreef op die manier zijn 39ste zege in het IndyCar-kampioenschap op zijn palmares. Penske-coureurs Simon Pagenaud en Will Power completeerden het podium.

De winnaar van de vorige jaar in St.Petersburg, Juan Pablo Montoya, kende pech. De Colombiaan reed voorin het veld mee, totdat hij een lekke band kreeg en de pits van de snelle oval in Phoenix, Arizona moest opzoeken. Uiteindelijk werd Montoya nog negende.

Voormalig Marussia-coureur Max Chilton blijkt ook prima uit de voeten te kunnen op ovals. De Ganassi-coureur kwalificeerde zich keurig als achtste en finishte op een mooie zevende plaats. Ed Carpenter leek ook lange tijd op weg naar een mooie klassering, totdat hij zijn bolide in de muur kapot reed.

Door twee tweede plaatsen is Simon Pagenaud de nieuwe leider in het kampioenschap. Scott Dixon klimt op naar plek twee, terwijl Juan Pablo Montoya als derde naar de volgende race vertrekt. De volgende race wordt op het beroemde circuit van Long Beach verreden en vindt plaats in het weekend van 16 april.

naar mijn idee, maar het was wel leuk om te zien dat Chilton zijn draai daar gevonden heeft.
