Will Power blijft teammaat Castroneves voor in kwalificatie

Kampioenschapsleider Will Power heeft zich gisteravond verzekerd van de beste startpositie voor de IndyCar-race in Edmonton. De Penske-coureur bleef zijn teamgenoot Helio Castroneves in de Fast Six ruim zeven honderdsten voor.

Will Power was niet te verslaan in de kwalificatie. De Australiër reed de snelste tijd in de groepsfase, was wederom de snelste in de top 12-kwalificatie en werd in de Fast Six alleen maar kort bedreigd door teamgenoot Helio Castroneves. Hij eindigde dan ook als tweede, 0.0764 seconden achter Power.

Penske kon er ditmaal, zoals in de vrije trainingen wel het geval was, geen 1-2-3 van maken in de kwalificatie. Scott Dixon pakte namelijk als beste Ganassi-coureur de derde startplaats, gevolgd door Dario Franchitti. Ryan Briscoe, de derde Penske-coureur, pakte de vijfde startpositie en bleef in de Fast Six alleen nog EJ Viso voor.

HVM-coureur Simona de Silvestro was de ster van de kwalificatie. Nadat de al de snelste tijd in haar eigen groep wist te rijden, eindigde ze uiteindelijk op de zevende positie. Ze mistte de shootout voor de pole position op slechts een tiende van een seconde. Desondanks is de zevende startplaats haar beste kwalificatieresultaat in haar IndyCar-carriére. Ryan Hunter-Reay was de snelste coureur van Andretti Autosport op de achtste plaats, gevolgd door Justin Wilson, Raphael Matos en Hideki Mutoh. Tomas Scheckter sloot de top twaalf af.

Verder kwamen Takuma Sato (dertiende), Paul Tracy (vijftiende), Marco Andretti (zestiende) en Danica Patrick (21e) niet verder dan de groepsfase. Hetzelfde geldt voor Tony Kanaan, die zijn auto al crashte voordat hij een tijd had gereden. De Belg Bertrand Baguette pakte de twintigste startpositie.

Oké ik ben een Alonso fan maar dit vind ik kut! Echt waar..ik verontschuldig me voor de Massa fans! Pfff vind ik gewoon zielig, ookal staat mijn held nu 1ste..
