Will Power blijft ook in kwalificatie op Infineon de snelste

Will Power heeft zojuist tijdens de kwalificatie van de IndyCar Series op de Infineon Raceway de pole position gepakt. Het was alweer de achtste pole van het seizoen voor de kampioenschapsleider, die Penske-teamgenoot Helio Castroneves voor bleef.

Power kwam op het laatste moment pas door de groepsfase heen, waarna hij laat in de tweede sessie van de kwalificatie uit de top-zes gereden werd. Een laatste snelle ronde leverde Power toch zijn plekje in de laatste sessie op, waarin hij teamgenoot Helio Castroneves met 0.037 seconden versloeg. Dario Franchitti, Power's voornaamste titelrivaal, kwam een halve seconde tekort op de Penske-coureur en start de race als derde.

Alex Tagliani leverde een zeer goede prestatie af en was de enige coureur in de top-zes anders dan een Penske- of Ganassi-coureur. De coureur van het Fazzt-team kwam tot een mooie vierde startplaats, nog voor Ryan Briscoe en Scott Dixon. Justin Wilson pakte de zevende plaats, maar bleef bijna op een plaats buiten de top-twaalf steken. In zijn laatste rondje reed hij echter een sterke ronde, waardoor hij Bertrand Baguette ui Q2 drukte. De Belg start de race als dertiende.
