IndyCar Series kort kwalificaties voor oval-races in

Vanaf de race op Chicagoland zal de IndyCar Series een ander kwalificatieformat handhaven. Eerder reden alle coureurs vier snelle ronden tijdens kwalificaties op ovals, vanaf komend weekend zijn dit nog maar twee ronden.

Sinds 2008 worden de startposities van de coureur op ovals bepaald door de gemiddelde snelheid van vier getimede ronden. Vanaf de komende oval-race op Chicagoland zal dit echter nog maar over twee ronden gaan. Dit om tijd te winnen. "Het wordt bijna onhaalbaar om zoveel auto's, 27 op Mid-Ohio en 29 op Chicagoland, te laten kwalificeren over vier ronden tijdens een tweedaags-evenement. Dat kost gewoonweg teveel tijd."

"Nu we naar twee ronden per auto gaan in plaats van vier, duurt de kwalificatie 33% korter. We hebben liever dat de coureurs dan meer tijd hebben tijdens de trainingen zodat ze beter voorbereid de race in zullen gaan."

Komend weekend gaat de IndyCar Series naar Chicagoland.
