Ryan Briscoe pakte derde achtereenvolgende pole op Chicagoland

Ryan Briscoe heeft op de oval van Chicagoland zijn eerste pole position van het seizoen gepakt. De Australiër staat hiermee voor het derde achtereenvolgende jaar op de eerste startpositie op deze oval. Dario Franchitti kwam al bijna twee tienden tekort op Briscoe.

Briscoe reed al de snelste tijd in de eerste training en was in de kwalificatiesessie bijna twee tienden sneller dan Dario Franchitti. De Penske-teamgenoten van Briscoe, kampioenschapsleider Will Power en Helio Castroneves pakten de derde en vierde startplaatsen. Franchitti was de enige coureur van Chip Ganassi die vooraan reed, want teamgenoot en voormalig kampioen Scott Dixon kwam niet verder dan de teleurstellende vijftiende startplaats.

Achter de top-vier pakte Marco Andretti een keurige vijfde startplaats op bijna drie tienden achterstand. Graham Rahal eindigde de kwalificatie met de zesde tijd, gevolgd door Dan Wheldon, Hideki Mutoh en Ryan Hunter-Reay. Oud-Formule 1-coureur Takuma Sato kwam op de oval van Chicagoland tot een goede tiende startplaats, op ruim drie tienden van Briscoe.

Bertrand Baguette pakte voor Conquest Racing de twintigste startplaats.
