James Hinchcliffe rest van 2011 in actie voor Newman/Haas

Newman/Haas Racing heeft James Hinchcliffe aangesteld voor het restant van het lopende IndyCar-seizoen. De 24-jarige Canadees testte al meermalen voor het team, maar miste de openingsrace door een gebrek aan financiën. Hij heeft nu in Eric Sprott en Sprott Inc. een geldschieter gevonden die zijn racestoeltje mogelijk maakt.

Hinchcliffe: Eindelijk mijn IndyCar-debuut kunnen maken is een droom die uitkomt en het einde van een vijftien jaar durende reis naar dit punt. Dat ik de steun van een prominent Canadees bedrijf geniet voor deze volgende stap in mijn carrière maakt het helemaal speciaal. Ik kan Eric Sprott en Sprott Inc. niet genoeg bedanken en ik weet zeker dat we de Canadese sport recht aan doen.

Mede-teameigenaar Carl Haas: Het doet ons deugd om James aan onze line-up toe te voegen. Hij maakte afgelopen december indruk met zijn aanpassingsvermogen en hij bewees zeker slim genoeg te zijn om op dit niveau mee te doen. In de 28 jaar dat dit team bestaat hebben we slechts drie rookies gehad, te weten Nigel Mansell, Sebastien Bourdais en Graham Rahal. Alle drie hebben hun uitverkiezing meer dan waargemaakt. Canada heeft veel goede coureurs voortgebracht en we kijken ernaar uit om James te helpen zichzelf te vestigen.

Beste meneer Carl Haas, zeg dan gewoon dat zijn geld de enige reden is dat hij in één van de auto\'s mag rijden!

  Ja als geld niet de reden was dat hij mocht rijden, dan zou hij echt wel aan de start hebben gestaan in St. Petersburg.
