Will Power verslaat Briscoe voor pole op Barber Motorsports Park

Penske heeft zojuist een dubbelslag geslagen in de kwalificatie voor de IndyCar-race op het Barber Motorsports Park. Will Power was met zijn 1:11.455 bijna drie tienden sneller dan teamgenoot Ryan Briscoe. Scott Dixon kwam in zijn laatste ronde nog naar de derde startpositie.

Power was in de eerste ronde de sterkste, maar moest een ronde later nipt zijn meerdere erkennen in Scott Dixon. In de Fast Six was de Australiër met zijn 1:11.455 echter 0.281 seconden sneller dan teamgenoot Ryan Briscoe. Hierdoor heeft Power al zijn tweede pole van het seizoen te pakken. Penske leek op weg naar een 1-2-3 in de kwalificatie, maar Dixon gooide vlak voor het einde roet in het eten. Hij ging Helio Castroneves nog voorbij. Justin Wilson en Oriol Servia completeerden de Fast Six.

Ganassi stelde teleur in de kwalificatie. Van het rijderskwartet haalde alleen Dixon de laatste ronde, omdat Dario Franchitti op het laatste moment nog werd teruggeduwd naar de zevende stek. Graham Rahal kwam niet verder dan de tiende plaats, achter James Hinchcliffe en Marco Andretti.
