Will Power comfortabel naar zege op Barber Motorsports Park

Will Power heeft de tweede race van het IndyCar-seizoen 2011 op zijn naam geschreven. De Penske-coureur leidde vanaf de start en zijn zege kwam eigenlijk geen moment in gevaar. Het Ganassi-duo Scott Dixon en Dario Franchitti flankeerde Power op het podium.

Power nam in de eerste stint een voorsprong van drie seconden op het duellerende tweetal Ryan Briscoe en Scott Dixon. Briscoe verloor bij de eerste serie pitstops zijn plek aan Dixon en raakte even later nog een positie kwijt aan Dario Franchitti, die zich langs de Penske-coureur wurmde.

Alex Tagliani gaf met een spin het startschot voor een serie neutralisaties. Bij de herstart spinde EJ Viso en hij toucheerde debutant James Hinchcliffe daarbij. Bij de volgende herstart crashte Mike Conway en botsten oud Formule 1-coureurs Takuma Sato en Justin Wilson met elkaar.

Na kortstondig groen was het Ryan Hunter-Reay die Ryan Briscoe uit de wedstrijd tikte. Wilson en Raphael Matos zorgden even later voor de laatste neutralisatie. Power reed vervolgens onbedreigd naar de zege, met op een comfortabele afstand Ganassi-coureurs Dixon en Franchitti.
