Ryan Briscoe opent weekend in Sao Paulo als snelste

Ryan Briscoe is sterk begonnen aan het raceweekend in Sao Paulo. De Penske-coureur eindigde aan kop met een 1:25.107 en bleef daarmee 0.034 seconden voor op Will Power. Ryan Hunter-Reay eindigde als derde.

Lange tijd stond Hunter-Reay aan kop van de tijdenlijst. In de laatste minuten kwamen beide Penske-coureurs echter naar de eerste twee posities en drongen de rijder van Andretti Autosport terug naar de derde positie. Hij kwam uiteindelijk bijna een tiende tekort op de tijd van Briscoe. Helio Castroneves eindigde als vierde, gevolgd door Justin Wilson.
