Dario Franchitti en Scott Dixon scoren dubbelzege Ganassi

Dario Franchitti heeft vannacht de eerste van twee races in Texas op zijn naam geschreven. De Ganassi-coureur bleef zijn teamgenoot Scott Dixon voor, maar het verschil was slechts 0.052 seconden. Will Power behield de leiding in het kampioenschap met de derde plaats aan de finish.

Franchitti kende een goede start en ging meteen voorbij aan polesitter Alex Tagliani. Daarna controleerde de Schot de race in Texas, totdat 21 ronden voor het eind de enige neutralisatie plaatsvond. Rookie Wade Cunningham en Charlie Kimball waren in Turn 3 gecrasht, waardoor het hele veld weer bij elkaar kwam.

Franchitti behield bij de herstart echter de leiding, gevolgd door teamgenoot Dixon, Will Power en Tagliani. Het kwartet reed nog weg bij de rest van het veld, dat op een seconde werd gevolgd door Takuma Sato. De Japanner scoorde hiermee zijn beste resultaat op een oval. Ryan Briscoe, EJ Viso, Graham Rahal en Helio Castroneves eindigden ook in de top tien.

Loting
De grid voor de tweede race werd bepaald door een loting. De coureurs mochten in omgekeerde volgorde van de finishpositie kaartjes omdraaien waarop de startpositie stond vermeld voor de tweede race. Tony Kanaan pakte de hoofdprijs en de pole position. Rookie Wade Cunningham mag de race vanaf de tweede plaats starten, terwijl Will Power zichtbaar tevreden was toen hij het kaartje met P3 erop omdraaide. Ganassi-coureurs Dixon en Franchitti starten de race vanaf de 18e en 28e positie.
