Will Power grijpt eerste oval-zege in tweede race Texas

Will Power heeft zijn leidende posities in het kampioenschap vannacht tijdens de tweede race in Texas nog maar eens verstevigd. De Australiër was de sterkste en pakte daarmee zijn allereerste overwinning op een oval. Scott Dixon reed een zeer sterke race en eindigde als tweede, gevolgd door Ryan Briscoe.

Power, die de derde startpositie lootte, kende een rondenlang gevecht met polesitter Tony Kanaan om de leiding in de race. In de 41e ronde wist Power zijn Penske-bolide naast Kanaan te plaatsen en gaf daarna de eerste plek niet meer af. Ondanks de startgrid die werd bepaald door een loterij, kwamen de snelste mannen toch weer boven drijven. Scott Dixon, die als 18e startte, eindigde op 0.946 seconden achterstand als tweede, gevolgd door Briscoe.

Helio Castroneves zorgde voor drie Penske-auto's bij de eerste vier en drukte Kanaan daarmee terug naar de vijfde stek. Marco Andretti was de beste coureur van Andretti Autosport op de zesde plaats, terwijl teamgenoten Danica Patrick en Ryan Hunter-Reay als achtste en negende eindigden. Daartussen stond nog Dario Franchitti, die door de loterij de race als 28e startte. EJ Viso completeerde de top tien.
