Dario Franchitti oppermachtig in kwalificatie Milwaukee Mile

Dario Franchitti heeft zojuist de pole position voor de race op de Milwaukee Mile voor zich opgeëist. De Schotse coureur was over twee ronden gemeten ruim sneller dan Helio Castroneves. Scott Dixon pakte de derde startplaats.

Franchitti was gisteren in zowel de tweede als de derde training de snelste en trok deze goede lijn door in de kwalificatie. Het leek erop dat teamgenoot Scott Dixon Ganassi een één-twee ging bezorgen, maar daar gooide Helio Castroneves roet in het eten. Zijn teamgenoten kenden een veel slechtere kwalificatie. Ryan Briscoe pakte de achtste startplaats, terwijl kampioenschapsleider Will Power niet verder kwam dan een zeer teleurstellende zeventiende stek.

Voor KV Racing was het juist een goede kwalificatie. Tony Kanaan eindigde als vierde, op de voet gevolgd door teamgenoten Takuma Sato en EJ Viso. Ryan Hunter-Reay was de snelste Andretti-coureur op de zevende stek. De kwalificatie werd nog opgeschrikt door een hevige crash van Simona de Silvestro. De HVM-coureur klapte in de vierde bocht de muur in en moest met hulp van de medische staff uit de auto worden gehaald. Ze was bij bewustzijn en lijkt geen verwondingen te hebben opgelopen.
