James Hinchcliffe verrast met snelste tijd in derde training

James Hinchcliffe heeft zojuist verrassend de snelste tijd gereden tijdens de derde vrije training in New Hampshire. De Canadese coureur bleef in de 75 minuten durende training Graham Rahal voor. Het verschil tussen beide heren bedroeg 0.014 seconden.

Hinchcliffe wist te verrassen in een training waarbij de favorieten het rustig aan leken te doen. Zo eindigde Scott Dixon als zevende, Will Power herstelde zich van twee teleurstellende trainingen met de negende tijd en kampioenschapsleider Dario Franchitti eindigde als twaalfde.

Achter Hinchcliffe en Rahal was het opnieuw KV Racing dat het beste van de rest was. Tony Kanaan, net als teamgenoot Takuma Sato het hele weekend al erg sterk op de oval, eindigde als derde terwijl de Japanner de vijfde tijd reed. Oriol Servia klom in de slotfase op naar de vierde stek.

Ryan Hunter-Reay was de beste Penske-auto op de zesde plaats, gevolgd door Scott Dixon en de twee Penske-teamgenoten Ryan Briscoe en Will Power. Mike Conway completeerde de top tien. Ed Carpenter zorde in de laatste seconden nog voor een caution door zijn bolide tussen bocht 2 en 3 te crashen.
