Dario Franchitti verslaat Servia voor pole in New Hampshire

Dario Franchitti heeft zich zojuist verzekerd van de pole position op de New Hampshire Motor Speedway. De Schotse coureur was in twee ronden sneller dan Oriol Servia, die voor detweede maal dit seizoen vanaf de eerste rij mag vertrekken. Will Power stelde teleur en kwam niet verder dan de twaalfde plaats.

Servia moest als één van de eersten zijn ronden rijden en deed dat met verve. Lange tijd was zijn tijd niet te verslaan, totdat Franchitti zich op de oval begaf. De Ganassi-coureur was met een totale tijd over twee ronden van 43.197 ruim twee tienden sneller dan Servia. Newman/Haas kende sowieso een sterke kwalificatie met James Hinchcliffe daarnaast op de vierde plaats. Tony Kanaan trok de goede lijn van KV Racing dit weekend door en start tussen de twee teamgenoten in als derde.

Ryan Hunter-Reay was de coureur die de eer voor Andretti Autosport hoog moest houden. De Amerikaan kwalificeerde zich als vijfde, terwijl zijn teamgenoten Mike Conway, Danica Patrick en Marco Andretti niet verder kwamen dan respectievelijk de twaalfde, vijftiende en tweeëntwintigste tijden.

Scott Dixon verzekerde zich van de zevende startplaats, al was de voormalige kampioen daar zelf neit geheel tevreden mee. Takuma Sato, Helio Castroneves en rookie Charlie Kimball sluiten de top tien af. Will Power kwam over twee ronden een volle seconde tekort op de tijd van Franchitti en start de race als twaalfde. Tevens zag hij zijn titelconcurrent een punt uitlopen, die de Schot had verdiend met zijn pole.
