Franchitti en Power houden titelstrijd spannend na slechte kwalificatie

De strijd om de titel in de IndyCar Series leek vorig weekend beslist in het voordeel van Dario Franchitti, maar na een teleurstellende kwalificatie voor zowel de Schot als diens rivaal Will Power ligt alles nog open. Franchitti start de race als achttiende, één positie achter Power. Hij heeft echter wel een voorsprong van 18 punten in het kampioenschap.

"Snelheid betekent alles op dit circuit en we hebben moeite om alles uit onze Verizon-auto te halen", vertelde Power. "Het is zeker niet het resultaat waar we op hadden gehoopt, maar het zal een lange race worden. We zullen moeten winnen en alles uit de auto moeten halen. Hopelijk komen we tijdens de race verder naar voren."

Dario Franchitti was ook niet te spreken over zijn Ganassi-auto. "Ik weet niet wat ik jou moet vertellen nu. Vanaf het moment dat we het asfalt opreden was de auto al te langzaam", vertelde Franchitti. "Het enige positieve is dat Will samen met mij zover achteraan staat. Ik denk echter dat zowel mijn team als Penske in staat zijn om ons naar voren te brengen. Het is zeker geen ideale startpositie, maar we zullen ons best doen om verder te voren te gaan."
