Hinchcliffe neemt voor Wheldon bedoelde plek bij Andretti in

James Hinchcliffe is door Andretti Autosport aangetrokken voor het IndyCar-seizoen 2012 als opvolger van de naar NASCAR overgestapte Danica Patrick. De vrijgekomen plek was eigenlijk bedoeld voor Dan Wheldon, maar die kwam bij een crash in de seizoensafsluiter van 2011 in Las Vegas om het leven.

Hinchcliffe durft het aan om het voor Wheldon bedoelde stoeltje in te nemen. De 25-jarige Canadees was vorig jaar de beste debutant in de IndyCar. Sinds het eerste belletje weegt de erfenis van Wheldon al zwaar voor mij. Ik beschouw Dan als een geweldige coureur en een ware kampioen, maar ook als een voorbeeldig persoon. Ik zal elke keer als ik in die auto stap aan hem denken. Een deel van mij zal absoluut voor Dan racen dit jaar.
