Rubens Barrichello beslist volgende week over Indy-toekomst

Rubens Barrichello heeft de Formule 1 na negentien seizoenen vaarwel moeten zeggen. De Braziliaan verloor zijn stoeltje bij Williams aan Bruno Senna en zo zit de Formule 1-carriere van de meest ervaren coureur er dan toch op. De Braziliaan testte twee weken geleden in de IndyCar Series en het lijkt erg waarschijnlijk dat hij daar zijn loopbaan voort zal zetten.

"Er is veel aandacht voor en als alles gaat zoals het moet gaan, denk ik dat ik begin volgende week wel een beslissing kan maken", vertelde Barrichello. "Er is op dit moment veel gaande. Ik heb al met veel mensen gesproken, er moeten nog enkele problemen worden opgelost en zo weegt ook het familie-gedeelte zwaar mee."

"Iedereen die mij persoonlijk kent ziet in mijn ogen al wel wat ik wil gaan doen. De eerste IndyCar-race is op 25 maart en zodoende kunnen we geen tijd meer verspillen. Als ik competitief wil zijn moet alles kloppen, zowel het team als het sponsorgedeelte en ook het familie-aspect."

Het lijkt dus erg waarschijnlijk dat Barrichello, momenteel 39 jaar oud, zijn carrière gaat voortzetten in de IndyCar Series. David Coulthard, die van 1994 tot en met 2008 tegen Barrichello streed in de Formule 1, vertelde over de mogelijke carriereswitch van de Braziliaan: "Ik wens hem veel geluk toe in de States. We hebben gedurende mijn carrière in de Formule 1 een goede relatie gehad en ik weet hoeveel passie hij heeft voor het racen."
