Lotus verliest twee klanten na moeizame start in IndyCar

De teams van Bryan Herta Autosport en Dreyer & Reinbold Racing hebben hun contract met motorleverancier Lotus opgezegd. Bryan Herta Autosport zal de krachtbronnen van Lotus niet meer gebruiken en mist waarschijnlijk de ronde in Sao Paulo, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing laat zich in Brazilië voor de laatste keer aandrijven door een Lotus-motor.

De verwachting is dat beide renstallen voor de Indy 500 een nieuwe motorenpartner zullen vinden. Lotus blijft over met drie auto's op de grid van HVM en Dragon Racing. De motorenafdeling krijgt de beschikking over extra middelen om zich te herstellen van een moeizame start in de IndyCar. Lotus-motorsportbaas Claudio Berro: "Lotus in de IndyCar is als David tegen Goliath. We zijn een kleine sportautofabrikant voor de enkeling, niet voor de massa, en dat zullen we altijd blijven. Dat gezegd hebbende, ik ben verguld met onze oplossingen en kan iedereen verzekeren dat elke actie goed overwogen is en zal helpen om de ambities en verwachtingen in de IndyCar te realiseren."
