Will Power scoort tweede pole van 2012 in Sao Paulo

Will Power heeft zojuist de pole position veroverd voor de IndyCar-race in Sao Paulo. De Australiër was in de kwalificatie Dario Franchitti met ruim vier honderdsten te snel af. Scott Dixon volgde zijn Ganassi-teamgenoot met de derde startplaats op het stratencircuit.

Power, die het hele weekend al snel is en vorig jaar de zege boekte in Sao Paulo, zal de eerste startijr delen met Dario Franchitti. Scott Dixon moet genoegen nemen met de derde startplaats nadat hij in de slotfase van de kwalificatie even naast de baan terecht kwam. James Hinchcliffe blijft sterk presteren in de kwalificatiesessies dit seizoen en start de race morgen als vierde. De Canadees is de enige rijder die in alle vier de raceweekenden dit jaar bij de beste zes mag starten.

Ryan Hunter-Reay en Justin Wilson waren de andere twee coureurs in de Firestone Fast Six en starten als vijfde en zesde. Simon Pagenaud kon zijn goede vorm van dit jaar niet doorzetten in Sao Paulo en moet genoegen nemen met de zeventiende startplaats.

Voor de Braziliaanse fans was er vandaag weinig te juichen. Rubens Barrichello kwam de groepsfase nét niet door en start als dertiende, één positie achter teamgenoot Tony Kanaan. Helio Castroneves stelde teleur met een tiende tijd in de groepsfase en start daardoor slechts als twintigste. Ana Beatriz sluit het rijtje Braziliaanse coureurs een plaats lager af. Takuma Sato kwam helemaal niet in actie door problemen aan zijn Honda-motor en start de race vanaf de 26e en laatste positie.
