Marco Andretti leidt treintje vertrouwde namen op Indy

Marco Andretti heeft voor de tweede maal in zeven trainingen de snelste tijd gereden in Indianapolis. De Amerikaanse coureur was in de zevende vrije training op de beroemde Indy 500 ruim een tiende sneller dan het Penske-duo Ryan Briscoe en Helio Castroneves.

Nadat de afgelopen dagen coureurs als Josef Newgarden en JR Hildebrand en Byran Clauson in de bovenste regionen eindigden, lieten de topteams gisteren voor het eerst écht zien waar ze toe in staat zijn. Andretti was voor niemand te achterhalen en reed 0.1229 seconden sneller dan Ryan Briscoe. Diens Penske-teammaat Helio Castroneves eindigde als derde.

Ryan Hunter-Reay legde beslag op de vierde positie met een achterstand van twee tienden op teamgenoot Andretti. Scott Dixon, James Hinchcliffe en Ana Beatriz zorgden ervoor dat de eerste zeven posities onder drie teams werden verdeeld. Rubens Barrichello maakte wederom een stap voorwaarts in zijn leerproces ter voorbereiding op de Indianapolis 500 met de 21e tijd. Hij kwam nu nog maar ruim een halve seconde tekort op de beste tijd. Jean Alesi eindigde als 31e op 2,6 seconden.
