IndyCar slaat flater met loslatend asfalt in Detroit

De IndyCar-race in Detroit is gewonnen door Scott Dixon. Dat de race twee uur stil lag en werd ingekort van negentig naar zestig ronden doet daar niets aan af. Dixon was oppermachtig op het circuit van Belle Isle, hij reed continu aan de leiding.

De baan zorgde voor de nodige problemen. Ongeveer halverwege begonnen stukken asfalt los te raken, waardoor James Hinchcliffe rechtdoor de bandenstapels in schoot. Hele lappen asfalt kwamen omhoog door de krachten van de IndyCar, waardoor de raceleiding genoodzaakt was om de race te onderbreken.

Na twee uur aan reparatiewerkzaamheden hervatte de wedstrijd met een paar rondjes te gaan. Indy 500-winnaar Dario Franchitti benutte die optimaal door de tweede plek voor zich op te eisen. Simon Pagenaud completeerde het podium.
