Dario Franchitti snelst in uitgestelde training Texas

Dario Franchitti heeft zojuist de snelste tijd gereden tijdens de eerste vrije training in Texas. De Schotse coureur, die enkele weken geleden nog de Indy 500 wist te winnen, was op de oval van Texas een halve tiende sneller dan teamgenoot Scott Dixon.

De training moest eigenlijk om half acht Nederlandse tijd van start gaan, maar uiteindelijk gingen de lampen pas een uur later op groen. Er kwam water omhoog door de smalle gleuven in het asfalt, waardoor dat eerst moest worden opgelost voordat de coureurs de oval op konden gaan.

Honda was de beste motorleverancier in de training met een 1-2-3-4. Achter de tweede Ganassi-teamgenoten eindigde Josef Newgarden namelijk als derde, gevolgd door Alex Tagliani. Tony Kanaan was de snelste rijder met een Chevrolet-krachtbron en kwam met de vijfde tijd ruim een tiende tekort op Franchitti. Ryan Hunter-Reay, EJ Viso en Simon Pagenaud completeerden de top acht. Rubens Barrichello eindigde als zestiende, terwijl kampioenschapsleider Will Power niet verder kwam dan de achttiende positie.
