IndyCar vult leemte van geschrapte race in China niet op

De IndyCar-kalender 2012 is definitief gereduceerd tot vijftien races. Op het oorspronkelijke schema stonden zestien evenementen, maar Qingdao viel al af. De organisatie ging nog op zoek naar een alternatieve locatie, maar een passende oplossing is niet gevonden.

IndyCar-baas Randy Bernard: "Na zorgvuldige beschouwing van de beschikbare opties concludeerden we dat het in ons belang was om de kalender voor dit jaar op vijftien races te houden. Als we evenementen aan ons rooster toevoegen willen we wel zeker zijn van de potentie voor de lange termijn en we willen ze een eerlijke kans geven om de wedstrijd goed te promoten. Hoe meer we de mogelijkheden aftastten, hoe duidelijker het werd dat overhaast beslissen niet ten gunste van de sport zou zijn. Ik bedank alle promotors die hun interesse kenbaar maakten. Het onderstreept de populariteit die de IndyCar nog steeds geniet."
