IndyCar reduceert het aantal testdagen voor volgend jaar

De organisatie van de IndyCar vermindert het aantal testdagen voor 2013 aanzienlijk. De teams mochten dit jaar meer testen om te wennen aan het nieuwe chassis en de nieuwe motoren, maar de gewenningsperiode is voorbij. De testmogelijkheden zijn volgend jaar beperkt.

Het aantal privé-testdagen voor teams daalt van zes naar twee. De IndyCar limiteert de hoeveelheid testdagen voor de motorleveranciers tot twee voor de seizoensopening en vier tijdens het seizoen. Het aantal setjes banden beschikbaar om mee te testen halveert naar zestien. Er zullen vijf groepsessies zijn, met één test voor aanvang van de jaargang en vier tijdens het seizoen. Nieuwe deelnemers of teams met rookies mogen twee extra dagen testen.

Will Phillips, vice-president technologie bij de IndyCar: "In het belang van kostenbesparingen en met de steun van het merendeel van onze partners beteugelen we het testen nu de eerste fase van de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe wagen achter de rug is. We herstellen van de herfinanciering van het veld en testen behoort tot de duurdere onderdelen van de begroting van een team."
