Randy Bernard stapt op als directeur van de IndyCar

Randy Bernard is niet langer directeur van de IndyCar Series. De Amerikaan stond drie jaar lang aan het roer van de Amerikaanse raceklasse. Dit jaar kwam Bernard in conflict met enkele teameigenaren die van hem af wilden. Dat is met enige vertraging nu dus gelukt.

Bernard is opgestapt, Jeff Belskus neemt als interim-directeur de honneurs voorlopig waar. "Beide partijen waren het eens dat het tijd is om elkaars wegen te scheiden. Het is in goed overleg gegaan en Randy blijft als adviseur betrokken bij de IndyCar", aldus Belskus tegenover Associated Press.

"Ik ben benoemd tot interim-directeur. We gaan nu op zoek naar een permanente vervanger voor Randy. Daar hebben we geen specifieke tijdlijn of deadline voor in gedachten. Het is onderdeel van een proces. Het is een verandering en mensen reageren daar vaak verschillend op."
