Kampioen Hunter-Reay snelt naar overwinning op Barber

Regerend IndyCar-kampioen Ryan Hunter-Reay heeft zich op Barber Motorsports Park knap hersteld van een teleurstellende openingsrace van het seizoen. De Amerikaan schreef de tweede wedstrijd van 2013 op zijn naam. Scott Dixon eindigde als tweede.

Hunter-Reay profiteerde in rondje 76 optimaal van het feit dat hij op de zachte compound stond. Daardoor kon hij leider Helio Castoneves, geschoeid op het hardere rubber, passeren. Dixon deed een ronde later hetzelfde, maar Hunter-Reay verdedigde zijn koppositie vervolgens met verve.

Castroneves legde beslag op de laatste plek op het podium en voert de tussenstand na twee races aan. James Hinchcliffe, winnaar in St Petersburg, zag de finishvlag niet. De Canadees verloor al vroeg in de wedstrijd op Barber een van zijn wielen.
