Hinchcliffe op vorstelijke wijze naar triomf in Iowa

James Hinchcliffe regeerde dit weekend op de Iowa Speedway. De Canadees leidde maar liefst 226 van de 250 rondjes van de race en boekte zo zijn derde zege van het seizoen. Ryan Hunter-Reay en Tony Kanaan vergezelden de Andretti Autosport-coureur op het podium.

Hinchcliffe na afloop: "We moesten uit onze ervaring putten en dat gold voor het hele team. We probeerden het gat naar de auto's achter ons te managen en tegelijk op de banden te letten. De wagen was solide. Ik heb steeds de juiste aanwijzingen gekregen en ik kan niet geloven dat ik bijna de hele race op kop heb gereden."

In het kampioenschap klimt Hinchcliffe naar de vierde plek, met 266 punten. Helio Castroneves, die in Iowa in de heats op zaterdag won, door een grid penalty vanwege een motorwissel als elfde startte en als negende finishte, leidt nog steeds met 332 punten. Regerend kampioen Hunter-Reay heeft negen punten minder.
