Tagliani vervangt Franchitti, Allmendinger bij Penske

Alex Tagliani is door Ganassi Racing opgeroepen als vervanger voor de geblesseerde Dario Franchitti. De Schot brak bij een zware crash in Houston twee ruggenwervels, zijn rechter enkel en liep een hersenschudding op. Voor Fontana doet zijn team een beroep op de ervaren Tagliani.

Tagliani bestuurde de eerste dertien races van dit seizoen de auto met startnummer 98 van Bryan Herta Autosport. "Als coureur wil je nooit onder deze omstandigheden ergens een kans krijgen, maar ik ben er klaar voor en verheug me op de samenwerking met het team en Scott Dixon."

Team Penske schrijft voor Fontana een derde auto in met AJ Allmendinger in de cockpit. De Amerikaan reed in de eerste seizoenshelft al vijf races, met een zevende plek als beste klassering. "Hopelijk kunnen we het seizoen afsluiten met een mooi resultaat voor Team Penske."
