De twee man die dit weekend om de titel in de IndyCar strijden vangen het weekend op Fontana allebei aan met een verse krachtbron. Scott Dixon en Helio Castroneves hebben hun motor laten vervangen. De bijbehorende grid penalty van tien plekken nemen ze op de koop toe.

Dixon voert de tussenstand aan en reist daardoor als favoriet naar de laatste race. De Nieuw-Zeelander van Ganassi Racing won dit seizoen vier maal en heeft 546 punten. Dat betekent een voorsprong van 25 punten op Penske-coureur Helio Castroneves. De beslissing valt zaterdag op de Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Californië.
