Power wint op Fontana, Dixon pakt de titel

Will Power heeft de laatste race van het IndyCar-seizoen op zijn naam geschreven. Op de Auto Club Speedway ging hij als eerste over de finish en hij deelde het podium met Ed Carpenter en Tony Kanaan. Naar die top drie ging echter niet de meeste aandacht uit. Scott Dixon veroverde namelijk zijn derde IndyCar-titel.

De Nieuw-Zeelander van Ganassi Racing sloot het jaar af met een vijfde plaats, zijn tiende top vijf-klassering van 2013. Het was genoeg voor het kampioenschap, omdat zijn enige concurrent Helio Castroneves achter hem aan naar P6 reed. Dixon: Het was een gekke dag. Mijn dank gaat uit naar Team Target. Het is ongelofelijk, ik kan nog niet bevatten dat we kampioen zijn.

Het eerste deel van de race op Fontana verliep vrij rustig, het tweede deel was een chaos. Justin Wilson raakte betrokken bij een crash met meerdere auto's. De Brit liep daarbij een gekneusde long en breuken aan zijn bekken op.
