Kazuki Nakajima wint op Suzuka, Pierre Gasly debuteert met tiende plaats

Oud Formule 1-coureur Kazuki Nakajima heeft de openingsrace in de Japanse Super Formula winnend af weten te sluiten. De oud-coureur van Williams won de race overtuigend door van start tot finish aan de leiding te rijden op het circuit van Suzuka. Naoki Yamamoto werd tweede, de laatste podiumplaats was een prooi voor Yuji Kunimoto. Pierre Gasly werd bij zijn debuut in de Japanse raceklasse tiende, dat leverde de Fransman geen punten op.

Vanaf pole position had Nakajima een probleemloze start en kon vanaf de Japanner vanaf de eerste ronde wegrijden van de concurrentie. Yamamoto probeerde bij te blijven, maar zijn enige wapenfeit was het passeren van kampioen Kunimoto bij de start. Veel coureurs kozen er al vroeg in de race voor om een stop te maken, Nakajima en Yamamoto besloten door te rijden.

Precies op het moment dat Nakajima en Yamamoto hun stop moesten maken kwam de Safety Car de baan op, vanwege een spin van Kazuya Oshima in Spoon. Yamamoto en Nakajima konden rustig hun stop maken en kwamen als nummer een en twee het circuit weer op. Bij de herstart werd duidelijk dat Nakajima de beste zou zijn op Suzuka, Yamamoto kon het tempo van zijn landgenoot niet volgen.

Zo wist Nakajima op dominante wijze de race te winnen voor Yamamoto en Kunimoto, die bijna tien seconden achterstand had op Yamamoto. Ishiuari, Andre Lotterer en Koudai Tsukakoshi besloten de top zes. Pierre Gasly kon zijn achtste startpositie niet omzetten in een beter resultaat: de reservecoureur van Red Bull finishte buiten de punten als tiende.

Het Super Formula-seizoen gaat eind volgende maand verder met een race op het Okayama International Circuit.

Wat is dat precies, een Japanner waar je vanaf kan rijden? Staan er kleine Suzuki's langs de grid waarvan men af moet springen om in de raceauto te komen of zo? Een soort moderne variant van de oude staande Le Mans-start?

  Dat heet een backspacer. Je bent je tekst aan het typen, ziet dat er een woord verkeerd staat, maar bent te lui om de backspace toets in te drukken en je hele zin te wissen. Dus klik je midden in de zin, typ je het vergeten woord en in de haast van het opslaan vergeet je je spellingscontrole grondig uit te voeren, zodat "vanaf" twee keer in de zin staat.
