Toyota wint in Bahrein, Audi niet op het podium

Toyota is bezig aan een ijzersterk seizoen in het World Endurance Championship. Na zeges op Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Fuji en Sjanghai was de Japanse autofabrikant dit keer de sterkste in Bahrein. Niet Anthony Davidson en Sebastian Buemi, maar Alexander Wurz, Stephane Sarrazin en Mike Conway gingen met de winst aan de haal.

Davidson en Buemi verloren veel tijd door een technisch probleem en eindigden als elfde. Het tweetal eiste echter wel de titel bij de coureurs voor zich op. Op het podium in Bahrein was geen plek voor Le Mans-winnaar Audi. De Porsche's met startnummers 14 (Neel Jani, Marc Lieb en Romain Dumas) en 20 (Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley en Timo Bernhard) completeerden het ereschavot.

In de LMP2-klasse was de zege voor de Oreca-Nissan van Matthew Howson, Richard Bradley en Alexandre Imperatori. De spanning in de LM GTE Pro-klasse was groot. De Ferrari van Gianmaria Bruni en Toni Vilander finishte na zes uur racen met minder dan twee seconden voorsprong op de Aston Martin van Darren Turner en Stefan Mücke.
