Tom Kristensen beëindigt imposante loopbaan

Voor Tom Kristensen is de 6 uur van Sao Paulo op 30 november de laatste race uit zijn actieve loopbaan als coureur. De 47-jarige Deen hangt daarna zijn helm aan de wilgen, maar hij blijft als ambassadeur bij Audi betrokken. Kristensen heeft een indrukwekkende erelijst. Zo schreef hij negen maal de 24 uur van Le Mans op zijn naam.

"Ik ben bevoorrecht geweest om vijftien jaar lang voor het beste team en de coolste autofabrikant uit te komen", begint Kristensen. "Ik heb geweldige teamgenoten gehad en met fantastische mensen mogen samenwerken. Met Audi heb ik titels en races gewonnen en veel onvergetelijke emotionele momenten beleefd. Dit team achter me laten is moeilijk voor me, maar we wisten allemaal dat er ooit een einde aan zou komen."

Door het pensioen van Kristensen komt bij Audi wel een interessant stoeltje vrij. Fernando Alonso is al een paar keer met het Duitse merk in verband gebracht en ook Jenson Button zou een vervolg in het World Endurance Championship wel zien zitten."
