Chilton rijdt komend seizoen voor Nissan

The candidates are now beginning to form at Manor's door.

Although the former Marussia team's 2015 revival is not yet guaranteed, a growing staff at Dinnington is scrambling to complete the cars, have them crash-tested and then packed up for Melbourne -- all by this Friday's looming freight deadline.

One driver, the British rookie Will Stevens, has already been signed.

And given the continuing technical collaboration with McLaren, two obvious candidates to be his teammate are Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne.

"I can't rule that out," Dane Magnussen, now the official McLaren reserve, said as the final Barcelona test concluded, "but it is not the focus.

"Of course my goal is to return to racing, but I want to ensure it is the best opportunity. My future is with McLaren," he insisted.

So for now, Magnussen's programme is to travel as reserve to all the grands prix this year with McLaren, even if he would have liked to have formed a father-son pairing with his father Jan at Le Mans.

"I did ask my father to check with Corvette if they have a place free," he smiled.

Another candidate, according to the Turun Sanomat correspondent Heikki Kulta, is Giedo van der Garde.

The Dutchman spent last year as Sauber's reserve, and reportedly agreed a race deal for 2015 before the Swiss team signed Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr.

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport claims van der Garde is still chasing Sauber in the courts.

But he is now reportedly in the running at Manor, presumably with his sponsor McGregor in tow.

The Spanish sports daily AS, meanwhile, is linking the vacant Manor race seat with Roberto Merhi, who last year took some backing to struggling Caterham in exchange for some Friday morning practice outings.

"AS can reveal that the Spaniard is in advanced negotiations with the team," the report claimed.

Giedo op poleposition dus ! Laat het maar gebeuren. Ik zie merhi eerder aan het team verbonden worden als vrijdag tester dan racecoureur.

Elke keer als ik een reactie plaats met een link of een copy/paste van het artikel

In iedergeval grandprix . com heeft een artikel waarin wordt vermeld dat Giedo grootste kanshebber is met merhi. Persoonlijk zie ik Mehri eerder verbonden worden aan het team als vriijdag tester ipv racecoureur. Maarnu ook buiten NED wordt Giedo genoemd !! laat het maar gebeuren :-)

Ramshoek2; gedeeltelijk mee eens, ik begrijp ie negatieve houding tov Chilton niet. Of zou het komen omdat het gros hier bang is dat Chilton de ambities van een middelmatige Nederlandse coureur met een vette sponsor blokkeert?
Chilton kan echt wel wat, ik denk dat LMP1 uitstekend bij hem past; hij is snel (genoeg), weet een auto heel te houden en kan zeer constant rijden. En hij is in staat een race te 'lezen'; op pure snelheid was Bianchi hem vaak de baas, maar Chilton liet geregeld zien toch over net iets meer lepigheid te beschikken als Bianchi.

inderdaad en Chilton neemt tenminste een verstandige beslissing en blijft niet wanhopig vasthouden aan F1.

Ja vast,als hij genoeg munten had,zagen we hem gewoon terug in de F1,en ga Chilton nou niet met VDG vergelijken

Hij( zijn vader) heeft echt zat munten om dat stoeltje bij Manor te kopen als hij zou willen.

Begrijp me niet verkeerd. Vanuit het perspectief van Chilton is dit een erg goeie keus! Lekker onder de pannen bij een WEC fabrieksteam.
Maar ik blijf erbij, Max Chilton was geen 'materiaal' voor een topteam uit de F1 en zou dat voor een ambitieus topteam uit het WEC dus ook niet moeten zijn...

jij geloofd kennelijk alle geruchten MasF1?

behalve de geruchten die er in 2013 waren over dat Giedo vervangen zou worden zeker?

Ramshoek 2; staat klein tikfoutje in mijn post, ik bedoel niet dat jij een negatieve houding tovChilton hebt, maar veel mensen wel.
En nee, het is geen Vettel, Hamilton of Alonso. Maar in het middenveld met een fatsoenlijke auto houdt hij zich wel staande denk ik. Als je dan ziet wat de heren bij die teams cashen dan heeft Nissan een hele slimme zet gedaan met Chilton; het komt in LMP1 niet op die laatste 3 tienden aan tenslotte....
