LM24: Eerste uur eindigt met crash en brandende Porsche

Na 59 minuten leek het eerste uur van de 83ste editie van Le Mans rustig te beginnen. De auto van Neel Jani is z'n eerste plek kwijt geraakt aan de nummer 17 auto van onder andere Mark Webber. De nummer 19 (o.a. Nico Hülkenberg) Porsche lijkt het tempo van de eerste twee niet te kunnen volgen en is voorlopig voorbij gereden door alle Audi's. Daarachter volgen de beide Toyota's die vooralsnog genoegen moeten nemen met plaatsen 7 & 8.

Op precies één uur vindt het eerste incident plaats. De Porsche GT auto met nummer 92 verliest alle drive, lekt olie en spint op zijn eigen oliespoor. Daarbij vliegt de Porsche in brand. Door het olie spoor spint de Strakka-Dome (42) auto nadat de Rebellion (13) alle grip in de chicane verliest en tegen de Strakka-auto aan rijdt. Beide auto's kunnen de race, na wat hulp van de marshalls, weer vervolgen. Voor de Porsche is de race voorbij.

De Nederlanders, zijn alle drie nog onderweg, Ho-Pin Tung heeft al wel in de box gestaan met een technisch probleem. En ligt hierdoor laatste in de klasse.
