LM24: Tweede uur Audi voor het eerst aan de leiding

Het tweede uur van de 24 uur van Le Mans begon achter de safety car. De eerste twintig minuten gebeurde er niet zo heel veel doordat de marshalls het oliespoor van de in brand gevlogen Porsche moesten wegwerken. Behalve bij Alexander Wurz, die met zijn Toyota van de baan afspinde en later via de boordradio toegaf dat het zijn eigen schuld was.

Bij de herstart is het meteen duidelijk dat het menens is. Twee Audi's en Nico Hülkenberg gaan drie dik naast elkaar over het asfalt. Daarbij weet de nummer 8 de nummer 9 te passeren. Na 1,5 uur weet André Lotterer voor het eerst de leiding te pakken deze race. Na de pitstops is de situatie meteen weer omgedraaid. André Lotterer gaat als eerste naar binnen, daarna volgt de Porsche met nummer 18. Omdat Porsche minder brandstof kan tanken als Audi, duren de pitstops van Porsche iets korter. De nummer 18 weet dus weer voor de nummer 7 Audi terug op het circuit te keren.

Na de pitstop van de nummer 17 Porsche ligt Timo Bernhard, om diezelfde reden, weer aan de leiding. Het duurt echter niet lang voordat André Lotterer weer orde op zaken stelt en de leiding over neemt.

Xavier Maassen ligt momenteel op de 50ste plek, Ho-Pin Tung ligt op de 51ste plek en Jeroen Bleekemolen rijdt momenteel rondt op plek 44.
